Looking toward the rear door. Bare drywall, exposed wiring and open ceiling boxes became a full run of cabinetry, a concealed refrigerator, a built-in double oven and a working island, all set on the oak floor that was laid during the gut.
The finished room does both things the homeowners asked for. It reads modern without feeling clinical, because the white cabinetry and quartz are warmed by oak floors, tan tile and brass. And it opens. Sightlines now run from the island straight through to the living room on one side and the dining table on the other, so the kitchen sits inside the main living space rather than off it. Opening a kitchen into the rooms around it is usually part of a wider home remodeling scope rather than a kitchen job on its own.
The island carries the working load. Sink, dishwasher and storage sit in a single run, which keeps the perimeter counters clear for prep and appliances. The waterfall edges give the island the weight of a built-in piece rather than a cabinet box with a top on it, and concealing the refrigerator behind matching panels keeps the long wall reading as one uninterrupted line of joinery.
